In recent weeks I have started saying a new phrase, "It is strange times we are living in." Amid all the shutdowns and stay home orders due to COVID-19, we are forced to live differently.
It's strange. Though I don't think it is all bad; but that is for another post.
Today I want to talk about things that are still the same.
Yes, it is a strange and new way of living now but there are things that are still important.
Actually even more important in these strange times. Things which most people had neglected in the past due to the comfort of their lives.
What is more important today than yesterday?
Physical, Mental and Spiritual strengths.
It is times like these in which our strengths have become more important, more necessary.
Our physical strength because it may minimize symptoms of COVID-19. Thus, allowing us to recover quicker.
I understand there are "healthy" people out there that are being effected by this virus. There is no guarantee your physical strength and health will keep you from getting sick but it gives you better odds in the fight.
And, you will likely bounce back and feel like your old self if you have been exercising and putting your body through little traumas regularly.
Our mental strength is important because we aren't allowed to distract ourselves with as much going to and from places. We have more time to look at our lives and consider who we are and who we are becoming.
Of course, we still have internet so we are not fully isolated but we have moved in a direction of slowing down.
A direction of change. Which requires mental strength in and of itself.
Lastly, and most important. Our spiritual strength because it will carry us through these uncertain times.
Our spiritual strength cannot be affected by a virus.
It cannot be weakened by a fever, cough or respiratory symptoms.
Though we may be shaken in illness and tragedy, it is through our spiritual strength, the strength in our Lord which will not be moved.
For God has laid a stone in Zion. A corner stone precious and Chosen
'For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”’ 1 Peter 2 : 6
As we finish up our Easter celebrations this year we can lean more fully into Christ Jesus who has overcome the world.
"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
We need not fear this world because Jesus is the stone of Zion.
We need not fear this world because God who was, still is, and is still to come.
May your faith be strengthened through the trials and tribulations of this world, as we wait for the coming of the "new Heaven and new Earth" (Revelation 21)
