Tonight I was thinking about cravings.
More specifically about my cravings for sugars, candies and et cetera.
The past few months, maybe longer, I haven't had many cravings for as many sweet treats as I have had in the past. At one point in my life I felt almost controlled by the need to have something sweet.
I eventually just didn't buy anything related to candy or sweets, which worked until I was around sweets at family gatherings and work. I remember one Thanksgiving I so much food (many sweets) my body hurt to even lay down.
The not buying candies and such worked for awhile. Then I met my future wife and turns out she is a good cook and baker. When she makes cookies or brownies they don't last very long, ever.
Anyway, back to cravings. As I was thinking about my cravings, I have realized the better I eat the less cravings for sugar I tend to have.
This isn't new research or mind boggling. It makes sense in so many ways and I tell you that to get to this point.
I caught myself using the term, "better foods" rather than "good" or "bad" as a way to describe foods I eat.
This got me thinking about this question, "what is truly "good" or "bad" in the grand scheme of things?"
Realistically there aren't good foods or bad foods.
There are certainly foods with taste we don't like but any only food is just food. And, before a plant or an animal becomes food it is simply a plant and an animal.
There aren't good plants, just some plants that are more useful and some that could kill you.
There aren't good animals, just some animals that are more useful and some that could kill you.
How we use, abuse or manipulate plants and animals makes them more or less useful.
In fact, all plants and animals have been declared "good" by God.
"And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day."Genesis 1:31
More importantly, prior to God declaring everything as "very good" God created man. God created the earth and everything in it, including man, "and behold it was very good."
You and I are part of God's creation. We have been declared good!!!
Unfortunately, how we use, abuse or allow ourselves to be manipulated by this world and Satan that makes us more or less useful.
God can and will "work all things together for our good" (Romans 8:28) but are we being more or less useful toward the glory and kingdom of God?
You have been blessed with abilities and opportunities.
What are you going to do with them?
